About Karnataka Orthopaedic Association (KOA)
The Karnataka Orthopaedic Association (KOA) is a professional body dedicated to advancing the science, education, and practice of orthopaedic surgery across the state of Karnataka. Formed in the early 1970s by a pioneering group of surgeons, KOA has grown into a strong and vibrant community of orthopaedic professionals committed to excellence in patient care and lifelong learning.
Our Journey
Orthopaedics in Karnataka began gaining prominence in the 1960s with the establishment of independent orthopaedic departments in major medical colleges. Inspired by the need for academic collaboration and professional support, a small group of surgeons laid the foundation for KOA. The association conducted its first annual conference in 1974 and was formally registered in the early 1980s.
From its modest beginnings with around 30 founding members, KOA today represents thousands of orthopaedic surgeons from medical colleges, hospitals, and private practices across the state.
